Rough Weekend for Kyle Wyman at Red Bull Indianapolis GP

BATAVIA, NY - (August 30, 2011)
The AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series went to Indy this past weekend as a support series for three MotoGP classes at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Kyle DNF’d in race one and finished 9th in race two – a weekend of struggles at the famous speedway.
After qualifying a strong 6th place on Friday, the grid was set and promised to put on a good show for the fans, which it delivered. Unfortunately a crash early on lap one of race one hindered Wyman’s hopes of a strong finish on Saturday.
“I just lost it,” said Kyle, “it was the fastest corner on the track – one that I had really been comfortable with. It’s really more like a kink, where you just breathe the throttle in 4th gear. The front tucked and subsequently the rear went and I found myself sliding down the pavement. It was one of those wrecks that I didn’t see coming – it kind of caught be by surprise.”
Kyle was in third place when he went down, but with a doubleheader weekend there would be a second chance at a podium finish on Sunday in race two. A bent fork from race one’s incident prevented Kyle from putting in the competitive lap times, dropping from 3rd position again to finish 9th.
“I had another great start in race two from the second row and was in 3rd again, but I knew immediately early in the first lap that something wasn’t right with the front end. We didn’t get to go out for a warm up session on Sunday, so the race would double as a shakedown of the equipment after Saturday’s crash. Unforeseeably it turned out the forks were binding, they wouldn’t travel past a certain point. I saw the leaders crawl away from me and I knew that I would have to take it down a notch and settle in. It was a handful to get around the racetrack. I ran off once, and just tried to nurse it home. It wasn’t what I wanted but luckily I was able to keep it on two wheels and salvage a top 10. Big thanks to my Dad, Uncle, Jason and Clint for working hard to get my bike back together for race two.”
The series heads to New Jersey Motorsports Park next weekend for the season finale on Labor Day Weekend.
