Kyle 6th at Barber - Travis Has Tough Weekend |
| BATAVIA, NY - (June 21, 2011) |
| After round five of the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series Kyle maintains 4th place in the championship hunt after a hard-fought 6th place finish on Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, AL. |
| An issue before the race caused Kyle to miss the sighting lap. Under AMA Pro Racing discretion, Kyle was appointed to the back of the grid for the start of the race leaving a gap in the starting grid where his 6th place qualifying position originally was. Over the course of the main, Kyle passed 13 riders in 11 laps to finish the day off in 6th place. |
| “Every once in awhile a small mistake can prove very costly,” said Kyle, “I put my head down as soon as the lights went out and just tried to get through the traffic as fast as I could and make the best of a bad situation. It was good enough for sixth, which I guess I can’t be too disappointed about.” |
| Travis, who qualified 7th on Saturday, got off to a good start and was in a heated battle for a podium spot before crashing out on the last lap. |
| In Sunday’s Supersport race, Travis had yet another uncharacteristic crash which resulted in injury. His left pinky was caught underneath the handlebar, grinding down 3/4” of his finger. He is waiting to see a specialist on Wednesday – the injury will likely involve skin grafts. |
